As part of their Grin and Bear It Adventure the Bear Den must: "Working with the members of your den, organize a Cub Scout carnival and lead it at a special event." So, what better setting than the Blue & Gold? This year we are having a carnival theme with games and food to help set the mood. The Bears have been working hard on some carnival games and the B&G Committee is working on carnival-themed food and decorations.

What is the Blue & Gold Banquet?
In 1933 "Cub Leaders' Round Table" suggested Parent / Cub dinners. Soon thereafter, Pack 1 of Michigan City started a tradition of pot-lucks where the dads were to bring utensils made of wood; whittled by the Cub with his dad. In the 1930s father / son 'bean dinners' and 'Cub family dinners' began to become commonplace. Finally, in 1943 the name "Blue and Gold Banquet" first appeared in BSA literature, and became synonymous with "celebrating the birthday of Scouting."
Today, the Blue and Gold banquet is one of the highlights of the program year. It brings together our Pack's families for a dinner and an evening of fun. The meal is important, but even more important is the warm, congenial atmosphere created as families enjoy each other's company. In addition, Pack 66's Blue & Gold Banquet also serves as the night our Arrow of Light Den "graduates." We conduct the Arrow of Light ceremony for those Scouts who have earned the highest distinction in Cub Scouts and we conduct the crossing-over ceremony for those choosing to transition to Boy Scouts. Representatives from Troop 279 and any other selected Troops participate.
